Software Engineer

FadingRed LLC, Chicago, IL

Who We Are

FadingRed was founded in 2009 by two passionate techies who left uninspiring jobs to found a company with a strange name.

Our goal was simple: to create an environment where people love what they do and have fun every day. Our small, close-knit, and energetic team creates delightful apps for the Mac, iPhone, and iPad platforms. We have high standards and believe in creating technology products that are simple, attractive, and functional for people.

What’s the Gig?

Our team is looking to expand and we’re seeking a passionate and confident software engineer who’s enthusiastic about contributing to our continuously evolving software products.

Get ready to hone your programming skills as you adapt to the intricacies of various platforms including Mac, iOS, and web. You'll work closely with our team on every aspect of the development process including: concept, design, implementation, testing, and deployment.

What We Look For

Ever since that first hello world program you’ve loved programming, but your interest extends far beyond just code. In your eyes, an app shines when it is well designed and easy to use.

Due to your curiosity and passion for learning, you're not satisfied until you understand how and why things work. You're opinionated, but also love collaboration and teamwork. Co-workers would describe you as self-motivated and constantly thinking of ways to improve.

You've been known to refactor working code just to make it easier to understand. You once spent a day learning a new programming language... just because. And since we’re a Mac software shop, you demonstrate an understanding and appreciation for the intricacies of our platform.

Specific qualities we look for:

  • Experience with object-oriented languages and design patterns
  • Ability to write and explain ideas clearly to anyone (i.e. my crazy grandma)
  • We work with Mac OS X everyday, so we’d like to know that you do too
  • Experience with Objective-C, C, or C++
  • Flexibility and versatility in a dynamic work environment
  • Willingness to soak up new ideas and grow to meet adventures head-on
  • BA/BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Computer Engineering

Other ways to captivate us:

  • Background in Linux and/or Unix
  • Experience with multi-threaded applications
  • Familiarity with network based applications

What Does a Typical Day Look Like?

In the rapidly changing world of software, there is no such thing as a typical day. Expect the unexpected!

One day you might be collaborating on the architecture for a new feature; the next you may find yourself discussing the nitty gritty details of a user interface design. You’ll participate in team brainstorming sessions for solving tricky bugs, crafting slogans for new marketing campaigns, prioritizing feature requests, even graphics work if you’re up for it! Ours is not a silent office; we communicate on a daily basis to share knowledge and improve both our products and our team.

New members of our team will be provided with in-depth training on all technologies that we use including Objective-C and Cocoa. A mentor will be assigned to enhance the learning process.

Where We Work

Our office is located in downtown Chicago, Illinois

The Perks

We don't believe in 9 to 5, working 8 hours everyday, or fixed vacation time. In fact, we don't buy into just about any of your typical corporate mumbo jumbo. We work hard because we love what we do. We believe that if you don't wake up excited about work, then you are in the wrong place.

Besides having extremely flexible schedules and no dress code, we provide fantastic benefits to all our team members including unlimited vacation, 401(k), health coverage, and a competitive salary.

FadingRed also hosts monthly developer meet-ups, enjoys movie days at the office, throws fun networking parties, and BBQ's outside on the rooftop terrace.
